Unveiling of new Mercedes-Benz electric car in Frankfurt
The Frankfurt Motor Show (held on September 14-24, 2017) saw the unveiling of the new Mercedes-Benz EQA Electric Concept Car – a compact vehicle with two electric motors located at each axle. The new Mercedes’ debut marks a significant moment for the automobile industry and offers proof of the brand’s commitment to introducing electric vehicles throughout its product range. The mysterious ‘EQ’ acronym represents Mercedes’ new electric car brand.
The EQA concept is Mercedes-Benz’s first fully electric compact car prototype and the latest addition to the EQ product range. The Concept EQA presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show has a range of approximately 400 km (depending on the battery capacity installed) and can be charged via induction or a wallbox – an innovative electric charger. The car can also be ‘fueled’ at rapid charging stations – in less than 10 minutes the Concept EQA draws enough electricity to produce a range of 100 km. The EQA features a number of innovative solutions including: laser fibre light technology and a display panel on the virtual radiator grille which changes its look depending on the drive programme selected.
The first EQ brand production models are expected to leave the Mercedes-Benz factory in Bremen in 2019.
